See what
I'm Saying?
"See What I’m Saying?" is EYTE’s inaugural exhibition, exploring the evolving concept of the gaze and our relationship with art in the digital age, asking both the artists and the viewers to reconsider what it means to engage with art in a virtual space.
How we look, how we are looked at, and how perception is shaped by context has been present within art theory for centuries, drawing on the work of influential theorists like John Berger, Laura Mulvey, and Bell Hooks.
But as curators and art mediators, “See what I’m saying?” is not only about the gaze, but also us reflecting on how art is experienced and understood. It's about the virtual space they occupy and how technology shifts the dynamics between artist, art, and viewer. The digital space removes the physical barriers of galleries and exhibitions, creating an opportunity to rethink what it means to witness and engage with art.
See what I’m saying is an exhibition about visibility, power, and identity. But it is also investigating the ideals of “good” and “valuable” art, and about the power dynamics within the art market.
