Figurative painting is interesting to me because it is accessible to everyone. No matter what language you speak, what your educational background is, whether you are an art enthusiast or an art historian: colors, symbols and figures trigger something in everyone. You can play with references and symbolism to evoke associations in the viewer like puzzle pieces, to make them understand a picture better or to mislead them. I like to tell stories two ways, either through applying the paint like butter with my hands in dynamic gestures or by using a brush and thinly creating layer on layer. What the two techniques have in common is abundance: on the one hand, a formal abundance through the thick application of paint, and on the other, an abundance of symbols. Ultimately, an artificial stage is created for the fragment of a narrative that the viewer can untangle on their own.
