As a graphic artist, my artistic work is primarily concerned with documenting ‘lost places’, everyday scenes, nature and architecture that have been forgotten but bear traces of the past. My central question is: How does printmaking behave as a documentary medium that is embedded in our reality? For me, printmaking is not only a means of reproduction, but also a tool for the abstraction and reduction of images. Printmaking as a reproducible medium has always had to do with documentation and reproduction, but my work goes one step further: I investigate how documentary processes are mediated and abstracted through the medium. I am fascinated by how the perception of reality is negotiated in the field of tension between representation and abstraction. For me, the special quality of printmaking lies in working with line and form and in using them to create surface and space.
