Rafael Hofmann

Curiosity is a driving force for me. For me, artistic work is a free space full of possibilities, open to experimentation, the visualization of the invisible and an opportunity for exchange. Juxtaposing different things or breaking out of a visual language within a picture and thus daring to think outside the box is a motivation for my work. The interplay of painting and drawing in several layers should make it possible to bring more bandwidth to the possibilities of representation. The approach to my work often includes intuitive passages. The intuitive, playful launch into the unknown is often reworked afterwards. Some image ideas develop for example from parts of previous images or from my archive of works, from memories I have experienced, or in the process. I often work with copies of my paintings to explore when a work might be finished or overdone. Moods and relationships between emotional states and the environment we perceive are themes that recur visually in my work, as well as organic structures and various abstract structures that evoke associations. The works are intended to leave room for the viewer to exchange and complete them.
