A mathematician in a bar scene, with a cigarette between his fingers and a drink beside him, has been banished to a tapestry constructed from a canvas and dowelled pieces of wood that imitate the fringes of a carpet. Thus, on the one hand, the figure is objectified, while at the same time the staging as a tapestry and the thick application of paint turn the painting into an object. Otto Dix painting of the Berlin journalist was a model for this.
